Scientists warn that unless we take action now to reduce the greenhouse gases we pump into the atmosphere, the world is facing catastrophe. A key element in the government's strategy to avert this disaster is the promotion of wind power, a “clean” renewable technology which, it is claimed, produces no carbon emissions and offers a home-grown source of energy immune from oil price shocks and global insecurity.
But others think wind power will be prohibitively expensive, beset by planning problems, and won’t keep the lights on during periods of calm. So, is wind power really the answer?
