The Tea Party is the future of Republicanism

Delaware Republicans have thrown caution to the wind and selected Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell as their nominee for US Senate. The 41 year-old anti abortion, anti-Washington, anti-masturbation, God-hearing candidate has been subjected to ridicule in the US national media; most have concluded that the Delaware Senate seat will go to the Democrats and that they will just be able to cling on to their Senate majority after this November’s mid-term elections. No surprise that even senior Republican Washingtonians seem distressed that candidates like O’Donnell are being selected. Is the Grand Old Party’s tip rightwards going to make it unelectable? Is this the gift to Democrats that Obama badly needed?
