The Elgin Marbles should be returned to Greece

The Elgin Marbles – the magnificent collection of sculpture and stonework which was taken from the Parthenon by a Scottish nobleman at the start of the 19th century and sold to the British Museum – are one of Hellenic civilization’s most invaluable cultural treasures. But they are also the cause of a long-standing and very keenly-felt diplomatic dispute. And now that Athens has the Acropolis Museum, a state-of-the-art venue to safely display them, the Greek claims for their return are growing stronger.
