Climate scientists are their own worst enemies

Those who believe that man-made climate change is a real and urgent risk have had a miserable year. Their cause was severely damaged last November when emails between scientists at the University of East Anglia were stolen and revealed on the internet just weeks before the Copenhagen climate summit. The content of these emails seemed to back up the belief that, at best, climate science was a closed shop of researchers intent on suppressing sceptical voices. At worst, the emails could reinforce the belief that the climate change movement is a conspiracy created by an alliance of left-wingers, green technologists and academics.
