Amanda Knox’s conviction for the murder of Meredith Kercher ends one of the most controversial murder trials of recent years. Knox’s family, along with almost the entire American media, have cried foul over the trial; her parents are already planning their appeal, and insist that their daughter has been made a victim of the shambolic Italian judicial system, as well as the jury’s anti-American sentiment.
Is this then a case of a young girl wrongly convicted of a crime on spurious evidence, or have people forgotten the meaning of the phrase “innocent until proven guilty”? Who is the guilty party – Amanda Knox or Italian justice?

There was a translator present during interrogation and was a witness at trial. Her confession was excluded, although later statements voluntarily made in English were admitted.
Knox' family spent over $1,000,000, not just for lawyers, but hired a public relations person who has been very effective shaping coverage in the USA; most of the comment comes from reporters and pundits who have no direct knowledge of the proceedings. Anti-Americanis seems to have escaped the notice of the hand full of American reporters that attended the trial.
